The Westmore School (school pictures & floor plan ), one of the most unique structures in the west as far as modern school design is concerned, is located in the heart of Orem city ( Map - Alpine District schools on Alpine District's Server) on Main Street.
Sixteen feet longer than a Salt Lake City block,
the school stretches out in the center of a ten acre plot. The forty-four thousand
square feet represent a lot of planning and effective building by the Alpine
School district It was specifically designed by suggestions from teachers and
these ideas incorporated into the building plans by archeitect Claude Ashworth,
Principal Fenton Prince, Victor C. Anderson, representing the school board and
Supt. D. R. Mitchell.
The building is comprised of two long wings and the center portion containing
the auditorium, office space, recreation and lunch room. The half of the building
facing Main Street has been reserved for the lower elementary grades with spacious
kindergarten rooms and furnishings geared down for tiny tots with even minature
sinks, drinking fountains and rest rooms. The other wing contains large and airy
classrooms, for the upper elementary. All of the twenty classrooms have an outside
entrance which is a convenience factor for children as well as faculty and a
prime requisite in fire prevention. Mr. Prince, noted that the entire student
body of approximately five hundred and fifty could be evacutated in thirty seconds.
The all brick and steel construction with steel doors and windows is another
factor which adds to the safety of the children. The entire building is soundproofed
and the halls are lighted by long windows.
Westmore Elementary has gone through some district reinvation (1999 - 2000).
Our school recieved a new computer lab, new large gym with a beautiful stage,
new restrooms for the students and teachers, phones in every classroom, and as
well as new lighting and ceilings.
Our school currently has about four hundred seventy-seven students.
