Discipline
Program
[
Menu
]
The Westmore school-wide discipline program focuses on positive behavior. It is expected that
teachers and other staff members look for and reinforce positive conduct. In the event of student misconduct, however, procedures
are in place to help students improve. For the benefit of the student, this program applies any time a student is on campus, on a
on a field trip, in an assembly, or at any school activity.
School Rules (Give Me Five)
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Hands and Feet to Self
- Follow Directions
- Be There -- Be Ready
Students who follow the guidelines at Westmore Elementary School can feel proud that they have
helped our school be safe and enjoyable. Building self-esteem is the first step in building self-discipline.
The following are listed as guidelines:
- Recognize perfect and on-time attendance.
- Include students as playground cleaners, kindergarten
helpers, cafeteria assistants, library helpers or class helpers, etc.
- Give children an opportunity to promote classroom and
school pride.
- Look for areas of strength in each child and promote
their uniqueness.
- Praise for things done well.
Suggested Steps for Stopping Undesirable Behavior
- STEP
1: WARNING
A warning,
before a Stop and Think, is designed to have a student reflect on his
or her behavior and make appropriate corrections themselves.
- STEP
2: STOP AND THINK
After a warning has not stopped the behavior, a Stop and Think is
given. A Stop and Think is a five-minute time-out in a
designated classroom location. On the third Stop and Think within
a class period, it becomes a time-out in another classroom.
- STEP
3: TIME-OUT
The
third Stop and Think within a class period becomes a time-out. When
a student receives a time out, he/she takes independent class work and goes
to the designated area in a partner-teacher's classroom.

Emergency Plan
[
Menu
]
Students have been assigned a specific
color for inside and outside evacuation. Please check the map by the
office to determine the color for your local neighborhood.
In the event of a school evacuation, students will assemble in color groups
groups on the southwest field. Parents or other approved adults will
then sign out the students.
Please make certain to fill in the entire Health
and Emergency Information Sheet, especially the section on who to all during an emergency.
It is particularly helpful to list at least one neighbor who lives in the same color section as your family.
Several emergency evacuation practices for earthquakes, fires, or
any need to vacate the building have been scheduled for the year. Children
are expected to be calm and quiet and follow instructions in order to be as prepared as possible for an emergency.
Take the opportunity in your family to discuss what your family members should do
in an emergency. This will help to alleviate fear if and when an actual emergency were to occur.
