This Policy Book information pertains to the school year Aug. 2006 to June 2007.

Lunchroom Rules   [ Menu ]

Please review the following lunchroom rules with your students. Courtesy in the lunchroom means following the rules below so we can all have a safe, friendly place to eat.

  1. Walk at all times.
  2. Pick up after yourself.
  3. Use inside quiet voices.
  4. Keep all food in the lunchroom.
  5. Stack trays on the counter gently.
  6. Use the outside door, not the hall when leaving.
  7. Follow all ADULT directions the first time they are given.
Fund - Raisers   [ Menu ]

We will offer Gold C books and Kara Chocolates as we have in the past, but sell them in a low-key manner.  This will provide you the opportunity to participate if you are interested.

If you are interested in making a donation to Westmore instead of participating in any of the fundraisers, you may send your donation to the school office at any time during the year.  This allows you the opportunity to provide resources without purchasing items you don't want or need.

The PTA will continue to provide their own popular activities. The school carnival and other traditional fundraisers will be available to you and your children.

Health and Emergency Information Sheets   [ Menu ]
  1. For the health and safety of your children, it is imperative that one completed Heath information Sheet per family be returned to the school at the beginning of the year.
  2. An additional Health and Emergency Information sheet will be sent home with students who have not returned the form during the first week of school.  It is imperative that the school office has a current Health and Emergency Information form on file for each student in case of emergencies.  A new form needs to be filled out each year with current phone numbers and emergency contact information.
  3. Please return the form to the teacher of your family rep (youngest child at Westmore) the first week of school.
Homework   [ Menu ]
  1. Most students will have homework on a regular basis.
  2. Teachers will not send home busy work, but constructive assignments with a specific purpose in mind.
  3. If you are concerned about the amount or the type of homework, please contact your student's teacher with specific concerns.
  4. It is very important for parents to read with their children every day.
Information Notes Sent Home   [ Menu ]
  1. Most notes are sent home with each student.  Notes from the office are usually on colored paper.
  2. Occasionally, notes will be sent home with the family representatives only.  That person is the youngest person in your family who attends our school.
  3. Please encourage your student to bring home all notes from the school since this is the main way we have of disseminating information.  Please check your child's backpack every day for important notes and information.
  4. Westmore World is our monthly school newsletter.  It goes home at the end of the month.  Because the newsletter contains schedules, upcoming events, lunchroom menus and other important information, we suggest you keep it for later reference.
  5. Reminders for important dates are posted on the school marquee.  Please check it frequently when dropping off or picking up your children form school.
Lost and Found   [ Menu ]
  1. To facilitate the return of lost articles, clothing, caps, coats, balls, etc. should be Labeled with your child's name.
  2. Tiny articles are turned into the office and larger items are placed in a box in the hall near the auditorium.  Students should check there for lost items.
  3. Lost articles must be claimed before the end of the school year.  When the school year ends, items remaining are donated to a charitable organization.
Medication   [ Menu ]

Without an "Authorization of Student Medication" form filled out by the parent and the student's physician, the school cannot administer medicine, including aspirin.  These forms need to be updated annually and as needed when there is a change in a doctor's orders for the medication.   After receipt of the "Authorization Form," the teacher can administer the medication.  After receipt of the "Authorization Form," the teacher can administer the medication.   The medication cannot be sent to the school with the child.  The parent and teacher need to count and record the number of refills and sign the medication form each time the pills run out.  Please make sure pills are given to the teacher before they run out.

If at all possible, we encourage medication to be taken outside of school hours.

The Family Center of Utah Valley (PIRC)   [ Menu ]

PIRC Lending Library - The Parent Information Resource Center is a connecting point for families to find the resources they need including books, games, videos, flannel boarding stories, folder games, toys, puzzles, and more.  Check out ten (10) items up to two (2) weeks to help your child in school.

Pets at School   [ Menu ]
  1. Dogs and cats or other pets will not be allowed at school because many adults and children have allergies.
  2. If a pet follows a child to school, parents will be called to come and pick it up from the school.  If the pet owner is unknown, Animal Control will be called to remove the animal.
Phone Calls   [ Menu ]
  1. Please discuss with your children the fact that calls should be limited to extremely important reasons only. Discourage them from calling home unless it is a true emergency.
  2. Please anticipate situations such as lunch money, homework, books, appointments, etc. before the student leaves home. The number of parents calling the school to speak to their child and the number of students requesting to use the phone to call home continues to be a large problem.
