As this school year draws to an end, we want to thank you for a wonderful year.  We have made new friedns and gotten to know some wonderful people (parents, coworkers, students).  Everyone has been so supportive.  We thank you for the privilege of teaching your exceptio9nal children.  We feel a deep sense of responsilbility and stewardship for each child's education.
Some important people will be leaving us this year.  Kathryn Manwill (2nd grade teacher) will enjoy being a new mom and Kimberlee Cook (Assistant Principal) will be moving closer to her hometown in Idaho.  Argie Shumway (Reading Recovery Teacher) will enjoy a well deserved retirement.  Joseph Asbury wil be teaching computer full time at Lindon and Valley View Elementary schools.
We thank these four educators for their leadership and service at Westmore.  We will miss them and we wish them a wonderful and exciting future.  We hope you take a minute and thank these individuals for their contributions.

Once again the holiday season is upon us and I want to express appreciation to you for your support in the process of teaching your children.  We feel a strong connection to you through your children and we feel a deep sense of stewardship and responsibility toward providing excellent educational programs.
As a faculty, we look forward to starting the second half of this school year with renewed dedication, commitment and focus.  Please take some time during the holiday break to reflect on your child's schooling experience and to think of additional ways you can support your child.  I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season.

  Principal's  Message -  February 2007  [Menu]
I am a firm believer in the popular saying, "two heads are better than one".  One of Westmore's major endeavors is to continually maintain a happy and collaborative atmosphere between staff and patrons.  Parents are one of our most valuable resources in educating students.  We appreciate your ideas, suggestions, and feedback - both positive and constructive.  Some of our best ideas for change or improvement come from parents.
To make it easier for you to offer feedback and ideas, a box has been placed outside the main office.  Your comments may remain anonymous.  I will personally retrieve your comments and share them as appropriate.  If you would like a response to your comments, please include your name and contact information.  I hope this will make it more convenient for you to offer input.  Students and stafff are also invited to use the comment box.
I would like to begin holding cottage meetings with parents who desire to meet with me in order to discuss educational ideas pertinent to our school.  I would be happy to meet with groups who want to learn more about Westmore's programs.  If you would like to host a cottage meeting at your home or volunteer a neighbor's home (just kiddin"), please contact me to schedule a time.  If needed, I will also bring one of our staff members who can translate the discussion from English to Spanish.
In addition, each month I will host Donuts & Dialogue, an informal gathering for parents who would like to come to the school and visit with me while we enjoy a donut.  These discussion groups will be held in the faculty room and will run between thirty and sixty minutes.  I encourage you to attend.  Even if you don't have anything to share, please come to listen, to stay informed or just to get acquainted with me and other parents.  Our first Donuts & Dialogue will be Friday, February 2, at 10:00 a.m.
I look forward to meeting often with you and hearing your ideas or suggestions.  As always, yhou may call me or schedule a time to visit with me personally.  Thanks for all you do to support us in working together to provide a wonderful education for the children of Westmore.

Next Wednesday, March 14th, patrons of Westmore will have an opportunity to preview two different math materials.  One of these two math materials will be choosen as part of Westmore's math curriculum for the next school year.  We would love for the patrons to be a part of the decision making process, so please come in between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to look over the two options.  You will have an opportunity to give input about each of the materials.  Westmore's staff will also be available to answer questions.  In preparation, please read the attached document titled, "Alpine School District - A Comprehensive Approach to Balanced Math".
Thank you for your continued support.

  Principal's  Message -  April  2007   [Menu]
I am happy to inform you that we have completed the process for selecting additional math materials for our math program at Westmore.  We appreciate those parents who attended our Math Preview Night on March 14th and provided important feedback.  We thank those who served on our School Math Committee in helping us decide which materials would best meet the needs of our students.  Feedback from both parents and teachers was much appreciated.
The School Math Committee has recommended to the district that Scott Foresman / Addison Wesley Mathematics be purchased for our school.  We are excited about these materials and here are just a few of the reasons why:

  1. The program's curriculum is well aligned with the state's core curriculum.
  2. The materials compliment our current math program and will provide needed balance, especially with mastery of math facts, traditional algorithms, and general math fluency.
  3. The materials are user-friendly for all involved: students, parents, and teachers.
We cannot over emphasize the roloe the teacher ploays in student learning and the importance of equipping teachers with a variety of quality teaching materials.  These additional materials will increase the resources availabel to teachers as they accomodate individual student needs.  We feel this balanced approach to teaching matherematics is in the best interest of our students.
Again we thank the following ten individuals for serving on the School Math committe and we thank them for playing an important role in the math selection process.
