  2007 - 2008 Preschool Registration  [Menu]
Registraton for students who are interested in attending preschool at Westmore in the fall of 2007 will be held on Monday, March 19, in the school cafeteria form 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.   Prospective preschool students will go with Mrs. Hovick and Mrs. Max for a short activity while parents go into the the cafeteria for a short meeting and to fill out the registration forms.  The entire process will be less than an hour long.  If it is not possible for you to attend this meeting, please contact the school and arrange for a time to complete the registration forms.
Please remember to bring the following with you to registration:
  • Birth Certificate

  •      Utah law [53A-3-401 (5)] provides that a school district may enroll children in school who are at least five (4) years of age before September 2 of the year in which enrollment is sought.  There are no exceptions.
  • Social Security Number
  • Immunization Record
If the birth certificate and immunization record requirements cannot be met at the time of registration, the following will apply:
  • Utah State School Law requires that all students must submit a completed immunization record to the school BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE in order not to be excluded from school.
  • If a birth certificate is not available at the time of registration, parents will have 30 days after enrollment to produce the certificate before the child is excluded from school.
To expedite the registration process, please bring a copy of your student's birth certificate and immunization record that the school is able to keep.
Prospective preschool students will be tested the first week of school to determine eligiblility for preschool.  Not all students who register for the preschool will be accepted into the program.
A.L.L. Pilot for 3rd and 4th Graden Students  [Menu]
Alpine District Gifted Services has been approved to begin pilot 3rd and 4th grade Accelerated Learning Lab (A.L.L.) classes for the 2007-2008 school year.  These pilot magnet sites will be at Foothill Elementary for the south end, and Highland Elementary for the north end of the school district.
Testing for identification and placement of current 2nd and 3rd grade students into next year's pilot 3rd and 4th grade A.L.L. programs are designed to meet the needs of students who master academic skills easily and who need more challenge than can typically be offered in a regular classroom setting.  A.L.L. classes move at a more accelerated rate and go into greater depth as well.
The first week of March, an informational flyer will be sent home with every 2nd and 3rd grade student listing indicators for parents and students to consider when looking at the possiblility of an A.L.L. placement as being a "good fit."  Interested patrons should be aware that it does mean a commitment of qalifying students leaving their neighborhood school to attend the magnet site program, and parents will be responsible for all transportation.
Applications for testing and parent referral forms will be available for downloading at the district G/T website: http://www.alpine.k12.ut.us/depts/curriculum/Services/GiftedTalented/ or from the front office of every Alpine School District elementary school beginning Tuesday, March 6.  Applications must be submitted by Friday, March 30.  For your planning, morning testing sessions will be offered on Saturday, April 7, at Highland Elementary, and Saturday, April 14 at Foothill Elementary.  Further testing specifics will be included in the informational flyer.
"We are excited to be able to now offer this additional service to our advanced level students in the youngerngrades," says Peggy Crandall, Coordinator of Gifted Programs and Services of Alpine School District.
